Tor Under 13s

There have been times over the last 4 seasons when I thought I might never get to post a match report for this squad at this age group-some history behind that statement.

This group of players were the first “batch” of U9s that started when Tor M+Js was resurrected -that first season we started with about 10 registered players a comparison we are now looking at 132 registered players as of last Sunday ..

They have stuck together through thick and thin showing all the core values of the great game of Rugby building a team spirit second to none -never giving up, even when low on numbers going into matches and tournament’s always coming out with “spirit of rugby awards” it is with great pleasure I can post this match report from the team managers ..

Tor under 13’s V Hornets under 13’s

Tor under 13’s this Sunday played their first match of the season away at Weston Hornets.

The sun was shining and both sides were up for a great game of rugby.

This was the first time that this group of players had played on a near full size pitch,(90m x 60m), in a match that was 60 minutes long, involved 6 man fully contested scrums and unlimited numbers in the ruck, it was quite a daunting prospect, but they rose to the challenge.

Tor started slowly, with Hornets showing they have 4 more matches under their belts, by looking the more organised of the 2 teams.

Tor slowly started to find their rhythm when Olly Sturgess broke through several tackles to sprint down the wing and score.

Sam Bolton started to bring the backs into the game and Tor were looking dangerous every time they had the ball.

Tor were awarded a penalty 10 meters out which quick thinking Frankie Stephens took quickly, breaking through a couple of tackles to score.

Henry Wall playing at Full Back made some try saving tackles to deny Hornets.

Tor scored again through Olly Sturgess breaking through several tackles to run half the pitch to score

Well done u13s..just shows you never give up!

3 Sep 17 – First training session of the year, and despite the weather, the  U13’s had a fantastic first session of the season.

With a couple of new players and the returning players, the team look sure to have a good season. Main focus for the team was scrumaging and the players adapted brilliantly to it.
